Rev. Simon Jackson was a man focus on God with a loving understanding wife. Before Lorretta passed Simon's was all Zion Hill, he lost Loretta and thought Zion Hill as well as all three children and two grandkids were about to be lost as well! Korea's letter and Jonathan's life style was a wake up call. David and Rachel was so bitter toward their father for he always put Jonathan first, but with the last two events he prayed and they promised to work on family relationship!A bit spicy for me but ,family means so much I can get it!
When I seen this book along with "Everybody Say Amen" and "Say Amen Again" were part of a trilogy I went ahead and downloaded all 3 to my kindle to read in order, so that I could have something to read while on a plane ride and vacation. I read both "Let the Church Say Amen" and "Everybody Say Amen" in a week. The story lines are excellent and they build on top of the other. They kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next so I stayed up late and woke up early trying to see what was going to happening in each of the characters story lines. The Jackson Family is a wonderful example that there is no perfect family and that we should not put humans (regardless of their status) on a pedistool. Each member of the family had their own issues that they had to deal with. I laughed, cried, and shook my head all through out both books. I finished "Say Amen Again" at 11pm last night and was so into the ending that I immediatly dove right in to "Say Amen Again" and stayed up until 1am trying to see what on earth is going to happen with Rachel's situation. I highly recommend purchasing all 3 books and reading them in order back-to-back. They would all make excellent movies. Wonderful writing job Roshanda Tate Billingsley!
I'm glad I read this book and I will be giving it to my mother to read. I grew up in church as well. My step father was a pastor and still to this day he neglects his family. My mother also sits by and says nothing, not to him anyways. She always complains to me and my grandfather about that loser of a husband she has. I also have a half sister that reminds me of Rachel. She is pregnant with her fourth child by the fourth father. And of course my mother is her babysitter. I think this resulted because of neglect from her father. And to make matters worse I don't even think he was called to be a pastor. He's been doing it for over 40 years and only has about 10 members in his church. If God's not in it it will not prosper. Plus the Bible says somewhere but I don't know the verse or book, that a man who neglects his family will never be blessed. His household should come first. Just like the message in this book. I can't wait to let my mother read this. Maybe it'll knock some sense into her and she'll realize this crap is making her sick.
As a daughter of a retired Pastor I can say that I enjoyed reading the drama of this family as we all have them in one way or another. The family is expected to act a certain way as being under a microscope and judged harshly especially the Pastor and his wife. The Pastor is more worried about his reputation with the church and less with knowing and enjoying his family. Looking forward to reading the continuation.
You talk about drama! If you are looking for a book that certain demonstrates a dysfunctional family that over comes the odds, then this is definitely one! This one book has every single type of family issue there is all wrapped up into one from the teenage pregnacy to someone trying to still your man. It was an easy read because some parts of it were predictable. I read it in a day mostly just so the drama wouldn't monopoly two of my days. I do plan on reading the sequel though I am not sure why because the ending pretty much resolved the story. I can not imagine how much more drama they can get themselves into. If you are like me and like to read story that make you feel WONDERFUL about your own life, then this book is surely one - fiction or not - that foolishness is really out there for some!
This is an awesome book that I fell in love with! The storyline, plot, all the twists and turns, everything about it was amazing! I finished this book in less than 24 hours!! I couldn't put it down because I just had to know what crazy thing Rachel was going to do next, or what other secrets Jonathon was hiding! A feel good book that will make you laugh, keep you shocked, and anticipating turning to the next page! I bought the "sequel" Everybody Say Amen, and I have already begun reading. I can tell it's going to be just as great!
This book is a lesson for us all. No matter what happens, you must find it in yourself to not lose focus on your faith and your loved ones.
The dynamics of the entire family kept me turning the pages. Can’t wait to read book 2.
