Read it front to back, and managed to pass the exam on the first try. A very large portion of the test is based on Compensations, Muscle Imbalances, and Corrective Strategies, so make sure that you completely understand page 183. Another tip would be to not spend time memorizing, but instead work to understand the concepts. Very well written textbook, by a reputable company.

I just started studying for the NASM CPT exam, but I highly recommend using the NASM Essentials Of Personal Fitness Training during your study process. The book provides several illustrations that I've caught myself visualizing while studying. The quizzes you have online access to using the code from the book are helpful as an initial knowledge assessment, but I recommend buying the $5 NASM app in order to gain access to the 500+ question test bank.

I used this for my personal training class and loved it! It is very easy to read and does a great job helping you prepare to be a personal trainer or even just live a healthy lifestyle and keep yourself fit overall. If you are going to be a personal trainer you NEED this book, literally, they test you off of the information inside this book. That being said, I highly recommend it.

This is an initial review based on first impressions. I intend to update my review in a few weeks.The three-star rating is based on the physical quality of the book.CON:-- The physical quality of the book makes me wonder about its longevity.-- The binding is good, but the color pages are very thin. How thin?...about as thin as a Bed Bath and Beyond sales circular or a weekly coupon circular in the Sunday paper.-- There can be no highlighting as any liquid will immediately bleed through and the pages will certainly warp given the book arrived on a cold day and the top and bottom edges of the book pages have waves (see attached images).-- I doubt the pages will stand up to a soft pencil if trying to take notes, I can predict the pages will tear from the pencil lead.PROS:-- The size of the book is nice, very manageable. It is not heavy and the hardcover will make it easy to read at a desk or with knees up.-- The book has over 700 pages, but it is not all text, it is full of charts, diagrams, and images of exercises (see attached images).-- The content is germane to getting the most out of any exercise or fitness-based lifestyle.I bought this book for my own education, without any intent on becoming certified, so I may take a bit longer to get through the book as I may bounce around the book based on content and not go through hit in a linear read.

Needed this book for Certified Personal Trainer class. Love how this book condensed from 21 chapters to 16 chapters and they added a new section on behavior change. Recommend if you're planning to become a personal trainer.

Got this to further expand my knowledge as far as fitness and training is concerned. Learning a ton of stuff from this book and have used and implemented some of the concepts in training my friends and family. I plan on doing self study and taking the test one day...

The NASM: CPT course at this present time is arguably the best overall personal trainer program out there.I just received my book a few days ago, and I'm aspiring to be a personal trainer after years of lifting myself.I must say I thought I knew a lot before, but my knowledge doesn't even scratch the surface of what is expected of you by the NASM team.PHENOMENAL book split up into 4 major sections:+Fundamentals of Human Movement science+Assessments, Training Concepts, and Program Design+Nutrition and Supplementation+Client Interaction and Professional DevelopmentIt's a 623 page book (including appendix) and is truly great even for just expanding your knowledge of training alone.I can't wait to get started, I'm hoping to hit it hard and get it done during my winter break and I'll make an update once I get there.(Doesn't hurt to mention also that buying the book on amazon is your best bet if you're unsure like me about becoming a personal trainer. If you buy it from NASM they force bundle it with the exam right away which you have to take 180 days after purchase [or upon receiving it, one of the two]. Also the book came in excellent and crisp condition so no worries there!)Overall: The potential for this book is excellent, can't wait to get started and I will update my progress most likely Mid-January.Hope this helps!
